Lakes Fire Rescue boat will receive new sonar

The Arnolds Park – Okoboji Fire and Rescue Department is proud to announce that they have received a donation of $2300 from the Iowa Great Lakes Association to purchase a new Side Imaging Sonar unit. Until this donation there has only been one Side Imaging Sonar unit in the Iowa Great Lakes Region and that unit is mounted on a DNR Lake Patrol boat. The existing DNR sonar unit played an integral part in the Lake Area’s Search and Recovery of a tragic drowning victim on June 28th. This new Side Imaging Sonar unit has greater accuracy and image enhancing capability that will make locating objects on the lake bottom easier. The new Sonar unit will be installed on the Lakes Area Fire Boat.

The purchase is made possible by a grant from the Iowa Great lakes Association that was arranged by their Executive Director Phil Petersen. The donation for the Lakes Area Fire Boat will not only be an extremely useful and effective tool, but will also be a tremendous addition to the Iowa Great Lakes area search and rescue resources. The Arnolds Park – Okoboji Fire and Rescue is extremely thankful to the Iowa Great Lakes Association for this generous donation that will benefit the entire Lakes Area.
