Bill signingDickinson County Nature Center had the honor of hosting a reenactment of the signing of Senate File 2349 by Gov. Terry Branstad Saturday, Aug. 23.

About 20 members of the public attended the event outside the Okoboji nature center. President of the Iowa Great Lakes Association Bill Van Orsdel introduced Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds who made a few remarks before passing the podium off to Gov. Branstad.

With the beautiful wetland acting as a backdrop, Senate File 2349 was signed, and the pens used were given away to those in attendance.

Senate File 2349 became law in June, providing, among other things, funding for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for lake restoration and for a new state park and water trails. Gov. Branstad also signed for an additional $1 million for lake restoration, after the Iowa Great Lakes Association successfully lobbied for those funds. The local water conservation group is working with the I-DNR to use some of those funds for the Iowa Great Lakes area.
