(Wahpeton)– A beach in the Iowa Great Lakes is one of six state park beaches in the state with high levels of fecal bacteria.

Samples collected last week turned up high levels of the bacteria at Emerson Bay on West Lake Okoboji. A safety warning sign has been posted at the beach advising swimmers.

High fecal bacteria readings typically mean the presence of organisms that can give people diahrrhea, stomach aches or skin infections.

None of the other state park beaches that tested at high levels for fecal contamination are in our area.
