The Dickinson County Clean Water Alliance is committed to excellence in its efforts for Clean and Clear Water in every lake of the county. To help them achieve this goal, they are reaching out to business and industry representatives, community leaders, individuals, and professionals in our community and surrounding areas by asking them to work with CWA in an advisory capacity to improve its programs.
The Dickinson County Clean Water Summit was a great success in 2013 and again this year. This has been a great venue for natural resource professionals and our community to explore the current state of our water, active projects and research, and future challenges. These summits have been well received with participants stating they are craving more.
To that end, the Clean Water Alliance discussed its success with the Iowa Water Center and is developing a plan to take our local water quality summit to the next level. Leaders are proposing a larger conference focusing on water quality and natural resource management. This conference has the potential to draw speakers from around the region and explore locally relevant topics. Local natural resource professionals and local community leaders will have the opportunity to share and learn from each other and from other experts from around the region.
The Iowa Water Center has already committed to providing logistical support for a conference. The Clean Water Alliance invites community members to join a small committee that will focus on the fun part – exploring topics for next year’s conference and developing a speaker list.
CWA anticipates the conference advisory committee will meet approximately 12 timesbetween now and next August. The first meeting will be September 25th at the Dickinson County Nature Center near Okoboji, IA. The meeting will begin at 1:00 PM and end at 2:30 PM.
Please indicate your willingness to serve on this committee by calling John Wills at 712-330-9492 or emailing John at john.wills@ia.nacdnet.net.
